Brass Rail Players to Present
‘Deathtrap’ in November
SC:Howlonghaveyoubeen
teaching on the collegiate
level and where have you
taught?
TCT:“Ihavebeenaprofes-
sor for 15 years, teaching
psychology, counseling, and
family therapy at St. Louis
Community College and St.
Louis University. I also led
a course in workforce skills
enhancement for adult stu-
dentsintheSt.Louisarea.”
SC: What is your favorite
part of teaching college stu-
dents?
TCT: “My favorite part is
when my student has that
‘Aha Moment’ and can re-
ally contribute something
to the class discussions. I
loveitwhen theyparticipate
in the conversation and feel
comfortableenoughteaching
me.Ialwaysenjoylearning,
and Iteachstudents from so
many different backgrounds,
whether it is a returning GI
or a mom or dad. They all
have their own experiences
tobringtothetable,andthat
exchange between instructor
andstudentiswhatIlovethe
most.”
SC: What courses
will you teach this
semesterandwhatis
your teaching style
like?
TCT: “I will be
teaching substance
abuse and family
therapy classes on
the graduate level.
My teaching style
can best be de-
scribed in one word: interactive. One quote
thatIalwaysabidebystates,‘Learningisnotaspectator
sport.’Iwanttocreateanenvironmentwherestudents
andinstructorcanlearnfromoneanother,andIexpect
everyonetocontributetheirownpart.Ialsolivebythe
philosophy of one of my professors Ray Becvar, who
said,‘MayIlivemylifeinsuchawaythatshouldIgo
crazy,noonewouldnotice.’”
Lindenwood Univer-
sity–Belleville will host
eight performances by The
Brass Rail Players com-
munitytheatregroupofthe
comedy thriller “Death-
trap”Nov.4-7andNov.11-
14.
“Deathtrap” is the sec-
ond show in the Players’
inaugural season lineup,
which began in July with
the summer musical “The
Wedding Singer.” Fu-
SC: What is your least fa-
vorite or most challenging
partofteaching?
TCT:“Ihatehavingtograde
tothe objective. The struc-
ture of the grading system
can be so black and white
thatitdoesn’tleaveroomfor
students who express their
thoughtsinways that aren’t
the norm. I like being able
to reach a student on his or
herownlevelandhelpthem
understand the material in
theiruniqueway.”
SC: What is your profes-
sionalbackgroundlike?
TCT: “In addition to my
teaching background, I also
conducted corporate train-
ings for employees ranging
fromthe janitor tothe CEO
of Fortune 500 companies.
In this way, I applied the
concepts I was teaching
toreallife.Someofthe
seminartopicsIcovered
were decision making,
communication skills
for managers, time
management, behavior
modication, and lis-
tening skills. I’m also
a licensed professional
counselorandhaveled
life-span therapy for
people going through
different phases and
changes in their life.
I feel these experi-
ences gave me the
realworldexperience
thatwillbebenecial
in the classroom at
Lindenwood.”

where students can come
